A Legacy
The Château d’Ivoire jewelry store, a luxury icon since1978, is internationally renowned for its product range and custom jewelry design. Nestled in the heart of the prestigious Mille Carré Doré commercial district in Montréal and at the foot of Mount Royal, the jewelry store occupied the basements of three connected triplexes. Turning a new leaf in its legacy, Château d’Ivoire approached Archi- to reinvent its retail space in a way that would fully embody its reputation.
A return to timelessness
The façade evokes a sense of permanence and security of an institution
The new four-story, 40,000 square foot building pays tribute to the site’s history where a tripartite ensemble stood in 1865. Inspired by the original architectural style, it features a recessed, street-invisible fourth level, and a grand double-height entrance. The façade, made from low-carbon local grey stone, reflects timelessness and sustainability. A generously lit forecourt welcomes visitors, emphasizing a blend of permanence and modern elegance. This design honors tradition while ensuring a lasting presence, offering a harmonious balance between the past and present.
Light as a Landmark
The central atrium is the heart of the space, flooding the store with natural light. At its core stands a monumental staircase, sculpturally connecting each level and guiding visitors upward. Its dynamic form draws attention to the second floor, strategically leading to the service center, and onward to an intriguing third floor. This vertical movement creates an architectural journey, turning the atrium into a lively, engaging promenade that enhances the entire space’s experience.
The new Château d'Ivoire is the result of a seamless collaboration between client and architect throughout every phase, from defining needs to building construction, interior design, and custom furniture creation.
The result transcends traditional retail, transforming the space into a destination offering a unique experience where visitors linger and staff enjoy a comfortable, stimulating environment.
