The 4 C's of Diamonds
When it comes to choosing a diamond, it's useful to understand the characteristics that define its quality and influence its value. Known as the 4Cs - carat, cut, clarity and color - these criteria are essential to making an informed choice. Whether you're looking for the engagement ring of your dreams or a timeless piece of jewelry, knowing the 4Cs will enable you to select a diamond that not only fits your budget, but also your expectations in terms of beauty and durability. Carat
Carat refers to the weight and, therefore, the size of the stone. The higher the carat, the more valuable the stone.
Other characteristics of a diamond influence both its value and appearance. Depending on your budget and vision for your ring, certain characteristics should be prioritized.
Cut
A diamond can be cut into various shapes such as round, cushion, princess, radiant, emerald, oval, pear, marquise, and even heart-shaped. The cut refers not only to the shape but also to the stone’s brilliance. The angles and depth of the cut affect how the diamond reflects light. Château D'Ivoire diamonds only feature ideal or excellent cuts according to GIA standards.
Clarity
Clarity describes the inclusions within a diamond, which are imperfections found inside or on the surface of the stone. Clarity ranges from flawless (internally flawless) to included (visible inclusions).
At Château D'Ivoire, we select only GIA-certified diamonds that range from flawless to slightly included. Regardless of the grade, all our diamonds are "eye-clean," with no visible inclusions to the naked eye.
Color
A diamond's color ranges from colorless (most valuable) to tinted. The clearer the stone, the more valuable it is. Château D'Ivoire diamonds are colorless or nearly colorless, graded between D and I by GIA gemologists.
