From the first daring takeoffs to the advent of commercial flights, Breitling’s history is closely linked to that of aviation. In the 1930s, Breitling’s Huit Aviation department made a name for itself by inventing precision clocks for for use in cockpits. Two decades later, the brand introduced another flight instrument, this time a novelty to be worn on the wrist: the Ref. 765 AVI. This pioneering pilot's watch provided the backdrop technique of today's Classic AVI, a collection inspired by the adventurous spirit of the first famous aircraft.
The Classic AVI Mosquito pays tribute to one such legend. In an era of shortages of aluminium and steel, the engineers behind the de Havilland Mosquito exploited a resource that was particularly abundant at the time: wood. The ‘wooden wonder’ caused a stir when it outperformed its metal contemporaries to become one of the fastest aircraft built between 1940 and 1950. With unrivalled manoeuvrability, the aircraft was capable of a wide range of missions, serving as a light bomber, night fighter, transport aircraft and photo reconnaissance aircraft.
This Classic AVI Mosquito is a true pilot's watch, designed to withstand the demands of a vintage cockpit. Its large Arabic numerals provide excellent readability on the dial and bezel.
The knurled bezel on its 42 mm case ensures optimum grip, even with a pilot’s gloved hands.
