His thirst for exploration led diplomat and archaeologist Max von Oppenheim to discover the remains of a highly advanced ancient civilization at Tell Halaf in northern Syria in 1899. He was one of the greatest archaeologists of the 20th century. The Max von Oppenheim edition symbolises Oppenheim’s fascination with the Orient from his childhood. The design of the 925 sterling silver writing instrument is inspired by the domes of oriental mosques. The barrel and cone are decorated with pale grey translucent lacquer inlays.
