Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen Limited Edition Ballpoint Pen

Few writers in literary history have crafted dialogue and brought characters to life with such elegance, irony and ingenuity as British author Jane Austen. Montblanc has created the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen to celebrate one of the most celebrated pens in English literature. This edition brings to life the Regency era, when the country estates of the nobility hosted grand parties to cultivate social relationships and forge matrimonial alliances. The fluting of a classical column adorns the elegant body, which is presented in sandstone-coloured resin, alongside Jane Austen’s signature. The contrasting blue-grey hood recalls the type of double-collared Regency coats commonly worn by gentlemen such as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Gold-plated rings on the body and platinum-plated hardware add the finishing touches. The engraving of the Roman numeral XLIII on the cap ring refers to the chapter in the novel in which Elizabeth Bennet first sees Mr. Darcy’s estate. The cover of her novel Sense and Sensibility, published in 1811, simply stated that the work was written “By a Lady.” This designation adorns the top of the cap of the Writers Edition Homage to Jane Austen Limited Edition, alongside the Montblanc emblem. The silhouette of the writing instrument itself is reminiscent of a wax seal. The clip is just as original as the cap. Taking the form of a braided cord with a drawstring closure, it resembles that of a “reticule,” a type of bag used by women around the 1800s to carry their powder, mirror, and essential pocket handkerchief.
