Tides are the result of the complex interaction of gravity and centrifugal forces between the Earth, the Moon and the Sun. On most of the planet's coastlines, there are two tides each day, each lasting 12 hours and 24 minutes. The Portugieser Yacht Club Moon & Tide displays the expected time of the next high and low tides on the counter at 6 o'clock. This function is made possible by a special gear that translates the regular cadence of the hours into the ever-changing sequence of high and low tides. The dual moon phase display at 12 o'clock has been improved to indicate spring and neap tides, providing information on the height of the current tides. Spring tides, which are particularly high, occur during the full moon and the new moon. The 18-carat red gold case, blue dial, gold-plated hands and 18-carat gold appliques accentuate the nautical character of this watch. The IWC-manufactured calibre 82835 has a Pellaton winding system. Made of ceramic components, it offers a power reserve of 60 hours.
